Negative push-up

A push-up that lowers you slowly from a full plank and comes back up from the knees, building strength toward full push-ups.

BeginnerNo equipmentLow impactSuggested: 8 reps

How to do it

  1. Start in a high plank with your hands under your shoulders.
  2. Take about three seconds to lower your chest toward the floor.
  3. At the bottom, drop your knees to the floor.
  4. Press up from your knees, then lift them back into the plank.

Form tips

  • Count slowly as you lower so the descent stays even.
  • Keep your body straight from head to heels on the way down.
