Barbell row

A bent-over pull that rows a barbell to your stomach to build a thick, strong upper back.

IntermediateBarbellLow impactSuggested: 8 reps

How to do it

  1. Hold the bar with an overhand grip and hinge forward with soft knees.
  2. Let the bar hang below your shoulders with your back flat.
  3. Pull the bar up to your lower ribs, driving your elbows back.
  4. Lower it with control until your arms are straight.

Form tips

  • Keep your torso still instead of jerking the weight up.
  • Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top.
