Alternating dumbbell row

A bent-over row that pulls one dumbbell at a time, so your core works to keep your back still.

IntermediateDumbbellsLow impactSuggested: 12 reps

How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and hinge forward at your hips with a flat back.
  2. Let the weights hang below your shoulders.
  3. Row one dumbbell up toward your hip, then lower it.
  4. Row the other side and keep alternating.

Alternate sides with each rep.

Form tips

  • Keep your hips and shoulders square instead of twisting toward the lifting arm.
  • Lead with your elbow and squeeze your shoulder blade at the top.
