Single-leg deadlift

A one-legged hip hinge that strengthens the back of your legs and glutes while challenging your balance.

IntermediateNo equipmentLow impactSuggested: 10 reps per side

How to do it

  1. Stand on one leg with a soft bend in that knee.
  2. Hinge forward at the hips as your free leg reaches straight back.
  3. Let your arms hang toward the floor until your body and back leg are nearly level.
  4. Squeeze your glute to stand back up, then finish all reps before switching legs.

Work one side, then switch. Timed sets run once per side.

Form tips

  • Keep your hips square to the floor.
  • Lightly tap the back toes down between reps if you lose balance.
