Dumbbell step-up

Step up onto a sturdy box or step with dumbbells in your hands to build powerful legs and glutes.

IntermediateDumbbellsLow impactSuggested: 10 reps per side

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a sturdy box or step with a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Place your whole working foot on top of the box.
  3. Drive through that heel to stand up tall on the box, then bring your other foot up.
  4. Step back down with the trailing foot first, then the working foot, and finish your set before switching legs.

Work one side, then switch. Timed sets run once per side.

Form tips

  • Let the top leg do the work instead of pushing off the floor.
  • Keep your chest tall and the weights hanging by your sides.
