Step-up with knee drive

Step up onto a box and drive the trailing knee to hip height to build leg power, balance and coordination.

IntermediateStep or boxLow impactSuggested: 10 reps per side

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a sturdy box or step.
  2. Place your whole working foot on top and press through that heel to stand up.
  3. Drive your other knee up to hip height instead of setting it on the box.
  4. Step back down with the free leg, then the working leg, and finish your set before switching legs.

Work one side, then switch. Timed sets run once per side.

Form tips

  • Stand fully tall on the box before driving the knee.
  • Swing the opposite arm forward as the knee comes up.
