Barbell overhead press

Press a barbell from your shoulders to straight overhead to build strong shoulders, arms and a stable core.

IntermediateBarbellLow impactSuggested: 8 reps

How to do it

  1. Hold the bar at the front of your shoulders with your hands just outside shoulder width.
  2. Squeeze your glutes and brace your core.
  3. Press the bar straight up, moving your head back slightly to let it pass.
  4. Finish with the bar over the middle of your feet, then lower it to your shoulders.

Form tips

  • Keep your ribs down so your lower back does not arch.
  • Push your head through once the bar passes your forehead.
