Calf raises

A simple standing exercise that strengthens your calves and ankles by rising onto the balls of your feet.

BeginnerNo equipmentLow impactSuggested: 20 reps

How to do it

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, lightly holding a wall or chair for balance if needed.
  2. Press through the balls of your feet to lift your heels as high as you can.
  3. Pause briefly at the top.
  4. Lower your heels slowly back to the floor.

Form tips

  • Keep your body tall and your weight over your big toes.
  • Take longer to lower than to rise.
