High knees

Fast running in place that drives each knee up to hip height to raise your heart rate and work your hip flexors and core.

BeginnerNo equipmentHigh impactSuggested: 30 sec

How to do it

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and your elbows bent.
  2. Run in place, driving one knee up to hip height.
  3. Land softly on the ball of that foot as the other knee drives up.
  4. Pump your arms, bringing the opposite hand forward with each knee.

Alternate sides with each rep.

Form tips

  • Stay tall and avoid leaning back as your knees rise.
  • Aim for quick, light steps rather than stomping.
  • March in place with high knees for a lower-impact version.
